HIV Testing

A number of locations in our area offer free, confidential HIV testing, including:

  • The Forsyth County Department of Public Health. Call 336-703-3100 to learn more.
  • The Triad Health Project in High Point. Call 336-884-4116 for more information.

AIDS Drug Assistance Program

The AIDS Drug Assistance Program is a part of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. It offers resources to help low-income residents afford HIV and AIDS medications.

AIDS Care Service

This national group works to remove obstacles that can prevent AIDS patients from getting necessary medications and treatments.

Local HIV support groups

A number of organizations in our area offer support groups for those suffering from HIV and AIDS, as well as the loved ones of those patients:

  • The Mental Health Association of Forsyth County has listings of support groups and current meeting schedules on its website.
  • Holy Trinity Full Gospel Baptist Church (651 Akron Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27105) offers HIV support groups. Call 336-744-9293 for details. is a national resource to get information about preventing the spread of HIV and AIDS, and links patients to local resources for care and support.

The Black AIDS Institute offers information and resources for those in the African-American community touched by HIV and AIDS.

Black Women's Health Imperative

The Black Women's Health Imperative is a national movement focused on helping African-American women suffering from HIV and AIDS.

AIDSMeds is a website that gives the very latest information about AIDS medications and treatments.

Health Resources and Services Administration HIV/AIDS Programs

A part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Health Resources and Services administration leads HIV/AIDS programs to educate patients on disease prevention and connect them with programs to support them during treatment.

The Body

The Body is a comprehensive resource database for AIDS and HIV patients, including an entire section for patients recently diagnosed. This information is also available in Spanish.

National AIDS Treatment Advocacy Project

The National AIDS Treatment Advocacy Project has compiled a database of AIDS articles, research and studies.

For patients with Hepatitis C and for those with HIV, Project Inform brings together information about the very latest treatments, resources for patients seeking those treatments and information for people who want to support research efforts.
